About
OpenOffice.org (more commonly known as OpenOffice) is the most popular office suite for Linux and it will open and edit Microsoft formats (i.e. doc, xls, ppt).
The applications in OpenOffice are listed below:

MEPIS 8.0. The "Writer" word processor and "Draw" graphic components from OpenOffice 3 are preinstalled. They can be found in K-Menu --> Office
MEPIS 7.0. The "Writer" word processor and "Calc" spreadsheet components from OpenOffice 2.3.0 are preinstalled.
The remainder of the modules (which are not provided to save space on the LiveCD) can be installed easily via Synaptic. (Search for package name openoffice.org-calc, openoffice.org-math, etc)
Hints
Thesaurus: The thesaurus (Tools > language > Thesaurus) is not installed by default. To install it, use Synaptic to search and install openoffice.org-thesaurus-xx-yy package (where xx-yy = your language and locale, for example openoffice.org-thesaurus-en-us for most in the USA.
