How to upgrade to KDE 3.5
From MEPIS Documentation Wiki
!!! Warning! The info contained in this article pertains to older versions of MEPIS !!!
This was tested on the SimplyMEPIS build 3.4-3. KDE 3.5 is provided with SimplyMEPIS 6.0.
- Enable etch in /etc/apt/sources.list (edit the file as root)
- Run apt-get update
- Then apt-get install kdm kdebase hal (respond "Y" when asked if you are sure, but be careful, don't respond "Y" if apt-get tries to remove important packages -- there's no way to know in advance, since it depends on the Etch status at the time you upgrade)
- Choose "N" when asked about replacing configuration files. (that's not a rule, usually you need to judge case by case, but I chose "N" to keep it simple and I didn't have any problems)
- Reboot.
In case you have problems mounting disks: Start KUser and add user 'hal' to the group 'disk'. Save changes. Reboot
