This chipset on the Gigabyte motherboard can raise problems with the Live CD, hanging it up during boot. Two workarounds have been described that may help:

Alter the BIOS

  • In BIOS Advanced -> Drive Config -> Config SATA as AHCI.
  • Then select boot small from the first menu, and added these to the command line: 
all-generic-ide pci=nommconf

Use a USB key

Create a bootable Mepis USB key on another computer
