Introduction
Multiple screens can be used with MEPIS in different configurations, but the technique varies somewhat with the graphics card.
Nvidia graphics cards
Multiple screens for Nvidia graphics cards are handled easily on the Nvidia tab of the MEPIS_X-Windows_Assistant by simply enabling Twinview and indicating whether the second monitor is to be an extended screen to the left or right, or simply a clone of the first.
Other graphics cards
For graphics cards other than Nvidia, multiple screens are set up by manually altering the /etc/Xii/xorg.conf file.
- First important step is to check if your video card will run with the final resolution(s) you require.
This especially applies to screens of 1280 x 1024 and above. The final res of a 1280 x 1024 dual-monitor setup will be 2560 x 1024. This kind of resolution is a tough call for a lot of video cards and gets harder if you are running a 3D driver setup as well. Check your card specs at these links; ATI, Matrox, NIVDIA, SIS
- Second important step is to decide what type of multiple display setup you want to achieve.
*Clone mode, large single desktop with or without 3D support, Xinerama, etc
- Third important step is to gather all specs of your video card(s) and monitors.
