Please consider adding these packages:

  • Konversation -- IRC client (could be easily installed by end user if automatix was included)
  • d4x -- downloader capable of changing a download URL in the midst of a download
  • Fluxbox or IceWM -- it would be useful to have it on the Live CD as an alternative to KDE for people that have older hardware (especially nice for MEPISLite)
  • Firestarter -- replace Guarddog with Firestarter. Many newbies prefer Firestarter, it's easier to configure, you don't need to know all the programs you are going to use and you get alerts in realtime.
  • Lynx or Links2 -- useful tool to 'surf while borked'
  • Nvu -- or some other web design tool such as Quanta or Bluefish.
  • mysql -- great database - one major application which is not represented in Mepis. Would be good to preconfigure it for both PHP and OO.org Base.
  • filelight - help to free up disk space
  • Klik client - for easy software installation
  • SeaMonkey - all in one internet application suite
  • dhcpcd - to be used as the default DHCP client. dhcpcd always works and gets the correct IP address, while dhclient doesn't.
  • SuperTux - a la SuperMario Bros
  • pdfedit - Edit pdfs

Explanation: the space on CD is limited, please suggest small and very useful packages. In case of packages conflict (example: Firefox vs. Mozilla), we'll choose our recommendation through voting at mepislovers.org

Also, please note that Debian/Ubuntu and KDE applications have priority over others (except when the other application is clearly superior)
