Applets

Applets are usually small applications that run in the context of another program (cannot run by themselves) -- in MEPIS most common applets run in Kicker or inside a web browser: Opera has what is called "widgets" and Firefox has different extensions, some of which act as applets. Java and Flash plugins can also be considered applets.
