GNU ddrescue is a data recovery CLI tool. It copies data from one file or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue data in case of read errors.

The application is available from the repos for MEPIS 8 onward through Synaptic/Apt.

The essential syntax is simple, just type as root:

ddrescue <drive one> <drive two>

For details, look at the man page; in MEPIS 8.5, right-click the desktop > Run Command, and type in man:ddrescue. Full documentation can be had by pasting info:/ddrescue to the location line in your file manager. Or you can type at command line:

info ddrescue

Note that you may have to install the command info first.
