Dropbox is a Web-based file hosting service that uses cloud computing to enable users to store and share files and folders with others across the Internet using file synchronization.

MEPIS 8.5 and 11

Dropbox is available from the repos.

Dropbox will set up a folder in your /Home directory that is synchronized automatically with the online one. To upload files, all you have to do is open the file manager and drag the item you want to the Dropbox folder.

Tips and tricks

Dropbox may rewrite your fstab file if you give it root access. Dropbox install disables the line that gives access to the home partition, by putting a # in front of the line. To repair, log into root after the install and remove the # in front of that line in fstab. Then log out and you can access your normal user login.

There exist applications for iPhone and Android devices, so that you can have synchronized access to your uploaded files from anywhere.
