GParted is the the partition editor application that comes with MEPIS 6.5, 7.0 and 8.x (it replaced QTParted in older versions).

It is used for creating, destroying, resizing, moving, checking and copying partitions, and the file systems on them. This is useful for creating space for MEPIS, reorganizing disk usage, copying data residing on hard disks and mirroring one partition with another (disk imaging). Particularly useful is the Gparted Live CD.

Using the program

  1. Select the drive you want to reparition from the dropdown box in the upper-right corner.
  2. If the drive is mounted you need to select unmount first (or swapoff if the partition is used as swap)
  3. Right click on the partition or blank space and choose the desired action: "resize/move", "delete", or "format to" and choose a format type from the drop down menu.
  4. Click Apply to save the changes performed.
