Fuji Xerox Docuprint c525a colour laser printer

How to install and configure drivers for a Fuji Xerox Docuprint c525a colour laser printer on a Dell Inspiron 1300 ME051 Intel Pentium M, 1.6GHz CPU, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB HDD. This works with MEPIS 6.5, 7.0, 8.01, 8.5 and 11.

  • Download Redhat RPM linux driversfor the Fuji Xerox Docuprint c525a colour laser printer. Select 'Linux', Click 'Download' button. The file 'dpc525a_linux_.0.0.tar_81c2.zip' will download
  • Extract the zip archive to a folder. The folder will hold the files 'C525A_Linux_manE.pdf', 'Fuji_Xerox-DocuPrint_C525_A_AP-1.0-1.i386.rpm', 'fxprefilter-1.0.0.tar.gz' and 'MD5-CheckSum.txt'.
  • Install the program 'Alien with Synaptic to make a Synaptic-friendly .deb file from the .rpm file.
  • Open a console window in the folder containing the extracted zip file and become root. Type
alien Fuji_Xerox-DocuPrint_C525_A_AP-1.0-1.i386.rpm'
The folder will now also hold the file 'fuji-xerox-docuprint-c525-a-ap_1.0-2_i386.deb'
  • To install the drivers, type
dpkg -i fuji-xerox-docuprint-c525-a-ap_1.0-2_i386.deb 

OR,

open 'File Manager Super User Mode' (Konqueror).

Navigate to the folder and right-click on the newly-created .deb file 'fuji-xerox-docuprint-c525-a-ap_1.0-2_i386.deb'.

Select 'open with KPackage', then select 'install', select 'install', select 'done'.

Select Start menu > System settings > Print configuration > Local printers - Docuprint C525A

Open "http://localhost:631/" in the Konqueror or Firefox address bar.

This will open the CUPS Common UNIX Printing System interface.

Select 'Administration'.

Under the heading "Printers" select "Find New Printers" and Cups will display 'Fuji Xerox C525A AP'.

Select "Add this printer".

Dialog boxes should show;

Name:FUJI_XEROX_DocuPrint_C525_A-AP Location:Local Printer Description:FUJI XEROX DocuPrint C525 A-AP

These can be edited

Select "continue".

A drop down list headed "Make/manufacturer" will appear Scroll down and select "FX", select 'continue'

A dialog box 'Model driver' appears with 'FUJI XEROX DocuPrint C525A-AP',

Close Konqueror.

Select Kmenu, system settings, print configuration, Local printers - Docuprint C525A, select 'change driver' select 'FX' from printer database, the next dialog box will have two columns, left one is Models: Docuprint C525A-AP, Driver: FX DocuPrint C525A-AP v 1.0 [en] (recommended) Select 'forward'. select 'use the new PPD..' select 'ok', select 'ok' to 'save changes'. select 'Apply'

M8. Select Kmenu, print system, add printer, add printer wizard, select USB/serial

It will display 'usb:FUJI XEROX DocuPrint C525A-AP'.

Select a valid detected port by clicking on 'FUJI XEROX Docuprint C525A A-AP USB #1'. Select 'Next', and this message will display, 'please wait while building driver database........'.

The wizard will move to 'Printer model selection', scroll down and select 'FX'.

Model; select 'DocuPrint C525A-AP' and click 'next'.

The wizard will move to 'Printer test'. Select 'settings', check paper size (A4 etc) click 'ok', and select 'test'.

A MEPIS Printer test page should come out of the DocuPrint C525A-AP

The wizard will move to 'Test page successfully sent to the printer. Wait until printing is complete, then click the OK button'. Click 'OK', Select 'Next', The wizard will move to 'Banners'. Select 'no'. Printer quota settings: Select 'no'. The wizard will move to 'User access settings'. Select 'no'.

The wizard will move to 'General information'. Name: 'laser', location: 'home'. 'Next'.

The wizard will move to 'Confirmation'. Review the displayed settings and click 'finish'.

The FX docuprint c525a is set to go.

Trouble shooting: If the CUPS Common UNIX Printing System interface can't find the FX printer or the KDE Print wizard shows the backend selection USB/local printer option 'greyed out', then completely uninstall Cups using Synaptic. Then reboot. Then install Cups again. Then reboot. Then try Cups Admin or the KDE printer wizard again.
