KDE4 removal

NOTE: don't remove kdm, before you install another login manager and select it to be the default.

To remove KDE4:

  • come out of the desktop with Ctrl-Alt-F1
  • log in as root, then type one at a time the following commands:
telinit 3
apt-get update
apt-get install aptitude
apt-get purge kde*
aptitude update
aptitude search ~c

all config files that are no longer needed will be listed

  • remove them with
aptitude purge $(aptitude search ~c -F "%p")
