NOTE: The following directions are valid for all the chipsets rt2400, rt2500, rt2570, rt61 and rt73.

I have recently installed MEPIS 7.0 on a Compaq Armada E700 with a 500Mhz Pentium III processor, 384MB of RAM, 18GB hard drive, and a ATI (now AMD) Rage Mobility video card. I then purchased a Linksys Compact-G USB Wireless adapter (WUSB54GC).

Native driver

You can use the native RT73 driver on the network card, check out the links below.

Ndiswrapper

I get better performance from the network adapter by configuring the ndiswrapper driver with the WinXP drivers supplied from Linksys, and then configuring Network assistant.

You must use ndiswrapper if you are installing MEPIS 7.0 from a CD-ROM rather than a DVD-ROM. I used the CD-ROM version on the laptop due to space restrictions.
