Replacing OpenOffice.org 2.02 with Open Office.org 2.2
-
#To successfully upgrade, you must first completely uninstall OpenOffice.org 2.02, and all related configuration files must be purged from your system.

-
#Then you need to temporarily change your package download sources.

-
#Next, you can install Open Office.org 2.2 from the new source.

-
#Finally, you restore your old package sources again.

-
#Done!

There are two methods available.
-

-
A : Command Line method
-
1: Remove OpenOffice.org 2.0.2
-

-
The following commands work for <u>both 32bit and 64bit installations</u> of OO.org 2.0.2 in Mepis 6.5:

-
*Open a konsole and become root:

-
su ( enter root password when prompted )

-

-
apt-get update

-
*Set aside temporarily your sources.list:

-
mv /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.orig

-
*Remove and purge the existing Openoffice.org 2.0.2 packages and config-files

-
apt-get remove --purge openoffice.org-*

-

-
2: Preparation of Sources
-
Now that the old packages have been removed, you need to create a new /etc/apt/sources.list with only the new MEPIS-contrib repository that has the OO.org 2.2.0 packages.

-
*Open a konsole, and become root

-
*Enter <u>ONE</u> of the following lines (without the bracketed text):

-
[32bit] echo "deb http://apt.mepis.org/contrib32-6.5/ mepis main" | tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list

-
[64bit] echo "deb http://apt.mepis.org/contrib64-6.5/ mepis main" | tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list

-
*Now use the new repository to optain a list of OpenOffice.org 2.2.0 packages:

-
apt-get update

-

-
3: Installation of new OpenOffice.org 2.2
-
* Open a konsole, become root, and refresh the package list

-
apt-get update

-
* Install the new packages (NOTE: this is a single long command line, make sure the last word of what you paste in is "menus")

-
apt-get install openoffice.org-base openoffice.org-calc openoffice.org-draw openoffice.org-impress openoffice.org-kde-integration openoffice.org-math openoffice.org-writer openoffice.org-debian-menus

-

-
4 : Restoring your original /etc/apt/sources.list
-
* Still as root, enter:

-
mv /etc/apt/sources.list.orig /etc/apt/sources.list

-
* Now add the contrib repository to your original sources.list for Mepis 6.5 that you just copied back.  (NOTE: this only adds the contrib repository, and does not affect the rest of the original sources.list).  Enter <u>ONE</u> of the following (without the bracketed text):

-
[32bit] echo "deb http://apt.mepis.org/contrib32-6.5/ mepis main" | tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list

-
[64bit] echo "deb http://apt.mepis.org/contrib64-6.5/ mepis main" | tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list

-
Then

-
apt-get update

-
to refresh your list.

-
* After having updated to OO.org 2.2.0 using the command line, you may select to install through Synaptic or Kpackage some additional OO.org 2.2.0 packages that are available: openoffice.org-emailmerge, openoffice.org-graphicfilter, openoffice.org-gnome-integration, openoffice.org-testtool and openoffice.org-xsltfilter.

-
NOTE: take good care <u>NOT</u> to install updates of older 2.0.2 packages (they may show up in the regular repositories) !

-

-
----

-
----

-
B : Synaptic method ( for regular 32bit Mepis )
-
1.  Remove OpenOffice 2.0.2
-
*Fire up Synaptic, and make sure (Settings --> REpositories) that <u>only</u> standard repositories are enabled: ubuntu, mepis, and medibuntu (if used).

-
*On the main menu bar, select Reload to refresh the package list.

-
*Now click on Search and enter:

-
openoffice.org-

-
to show the list of OO.org packages.  We are going to uninstall and purge all the installed OO.org 2.0.2 packages, but not all at once, because that may cause problems.

-
*Begin by right-clicking and selecting "Mark for  Complete Removal" only these 3 files:

-
openoffice.org-java-common

-
openoffice.org-l10n-common

-
openoffice.org-kde

-
Once all three have been marked for complete removal, uninstall them by clicking on Apply, then Apply to the dialogue box that pops up.

-
*Now click on Search again and enter

-
python-uno

-
Uninstall it in the same way, again making sure that complete removal is being selected.  This will also remove/purge openoffice-writer

-
*Highlight your first search results again in the left-hand panel, and select

-
openoffice.org-l10n-en-us

-
Completely remove it in the same manner as before. This will remove and purge calc, common, core, draw, impress and math as well.

-

-
NOTE: Don't worry about the dpkg-warnings that appear about 'directories not being empty'. (You won't need them as 2.2 installs in a different location)

-

-
2 : Preparation of Sources
-
*First we have to make sure that ONLY the following NEW repository (which holds the version 2.2 packages) is enabled in /etc/apt/sources.list by checking Settings --> Repositories

-

-
deb http://apt.mepis.org/contrib32-6.5/ mepis main

-

-
Again: make sure that all other repos are UNCHECKED.

-

-
3: Installation of new OpenOffice.org 2.2
-
*Ready to go?  With Synaptic open, click Reload, so that the package list is refreshed.

-
*Select New and type in the Search area:

-
openoffice.org-

-
A list of all available new OO.org 2.2 packages should appear.

-
*Select, mark and install ONLY this package:

-
openoffice.org-base

-
NOTE; with the openoffice.org-base package several core packages (01 through 08) will be installed as well.

-
*Now select, mark and install these:

-
openoffice.org-core09

-
openoffice.org-core10

-
openoffice.org-pyuno

-
openoffice.org-javafilter

-
*Once that is done, select, mark and install these:

-
openoffice.org-calc

-
openoffice.org-debian-menus

-
openoffice.org-draw

-
openoffice.org-impress

-
openoffice.org-kde-integration

-
openoffice.org-math

-
openoffice.org-writer

-
*All done! OO.org 2.2 is now installed under /opt/openoffice2.2

-
If you want you may install some or all of the still remaining packages: openoffice.org-emailmerge, openoffice.org-graphicfilter, openoffice.org-gnome-integration, openoffice.org-testtool and openoffice.org-xsltfilter.

-
4 : Restoring your original /etc/apt/sources.list
-
*Check all the 'standard' repos (Ubuntu, MEPIS, and medibuntu if you need it) again and uncheck the contrib32-6.5 mepis repo.  Or you can use the command line method.

-
NOTES

-
#DO NOT remove the contrib32-6.5 repo; just disable it in /etc/apt/sources.list.  You may need it later on.

-
#DO NOT install updates for Openoffice 2.0.2 packages from there later on, should such updates appear now that you have restored the regular Ubuntu repos.

Wiki Review for Mepis 8.5 Manual

Please review these links that are going to be included in MEPIS 8.5 Manual. Please make sure the information is up-to-date, accurate, and is formatted properly. Once you finish an article, please mark the link with "good" or "fixed", "needs more info", "needs update" or any other informative tag that you might feel you need to add. BTW, the list is not alphabetical; topics are listed in the order they occur in the Manual to facilitate cross-checking. The exceptions are topics like GRUB which have several articles grouped together for convenience of the reviewers.

To enter your username and date, just insert 4 tildes like this: ~~~~
