Wlan0 rename

The automatically assigned device name of a wireless card may actually change around a bit due to random variation in the udev initialization process. In some cases, the wireless interface is named after installation "wlan0_rename" and the user may want to change it.

The following rule, placed in /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules solved this issue:

KERNEL=="wlan*", SYSFS{address}=="00:90:4b:c1:21:c6", NAME=wlan0

Notes: 1) that the bolded text (00:90:4b:c1:21:c6) will need to be changed to the Mac address of your wireless card. 2) you can change the new name to a different name as well 3) though running the command ifconfig will return a MAC address with capital letters, this entry must be made in all lower case.
