A Note to MEPIS Testers
Submitted by emelbert on Thu, 04/20/2006 - 16:57. Dev StatusThanks to everyone in the community who has given feedback and submitted bug reports! Keep in mind that if you are testing for MEPIS, it is best if you do not update from the pools. We have no way of knowing whether a problem you report exists in the OS or if it is a result of an update from the pools.

Fix for Intel 915 Sound Problem
Submitted by warren on Fri, 04/07/2006 - 19:45. Dev StatusI've found a solution to a problem with audio on the Intel 915 boards. I don't know if this is the only problem.
The mixer for hda-intel is very odd. The master volume has no affect. This means that unmuting the usual volume control and turning it up does nothing.

Following is a list of apps that have been included in the panel, but feel free to suggest others. Also, please tell us which apps you would like as small icons and which as big icons.

iPOD Compatibility Has Changed
Submitted by warren on Thu, 02/16/2006 - 20:52. Dev StatusHfsplus write support has always been iffy in Linux. In kernel 2.6.15 the write support for hfsplus filesystem has been disabled by the kernel team. As a result, it is no longer possible to upload songs to a Mac iPOD with MEPIS.

A Wireless WEP Encryption Fix
Submitted by warren on Fri, 01/27/2006 - 21:58. Dev StatusWe finally found a wireless card that demonstrated the WEP encryption problem. Different cards initialize the key mode differently.
If you have the problem, edit the file: /etc/mepis-network/wireless/default

CDROM Detection - Solved?
Submitted by warren on Thu, 01/26/2006 - 13:29. Dev StatusWe have one very old machine that exhibits the problem of CDROM events not being seen and/or processed by udev. The Debian pool has an update of udev to version 0.081. I upgraded the packages in rc3+ and the CDROM works correctly now!

Is 3.4-3 Ready for Release? Vote Now!
Submitted by emelbert on Wed, 01/25/2006 - 17:03. Dev StatusIt's been several months in the making, but we at MEPIS think that Simply 3.4-3 may be ready for final release. It works on our machines. However, we've heard from a few people in the community that things are not so peachy for everyone trying the latest RC. There have been a few reports that CD drives and SATA drives are not being recognized. But, try as we might, we cannot duplicate the problem.

More Udev Related Install Fixes - Only Change in RC2.1
Submitted by warren on Wed, 01/18/2006 - 10:08. Dev StatusIf you use reiserfs and had trouble installing with RC2, that problem should be solved in RC2.1. Otherwise RC2.1 is the same as RC2.
The problem with dynamic /dev taking time to settle was more widespread than I realized. Now the installer has a time delay between each and every operation that might cause the hard drive dev entries to be rebuilt. I think I got them all...
