Please read all of this before posting problems and e-mailing support. We will be updating this document as we find more problems and we will also update any fixes that we may find.

There have been a few items that have cropped up on SimplyMEPIS 3.4-3 RC1 and we currently working resolving them and we have updates on some of these issues.

The OSCenter in SimplyMEPIS 3.4-3rc1 has a timing issue that affects installing with ext2/3 on some hard drives.

UPDATE: This has been fixed in rc2.

The cause of the problem is that mkfs.ext2 checks for the presence of the device and aborts if it is not found. With udev, the device entries of a hard drive are rebuild if the partition table chages. This can happen right before calling mkfs.ext2 and depending on the speed of the computer and the hard drive, the table may not get built in time. This does not happen with mkfs.reiserfs because it does not test for the dev entry.

Last week Danno at A&B Computers in Cottage Grove, MN donated an old HP DJ660C to our test lab and we were able to duplicate the problem some of you were having with older printers.

The problem has been solved, at least for us. And other problems had already been solved. Now every printer we have, works with every computer we have.

The initial release of the MEPIS Extras CDs isos for 3.3.1 are available at the MEPIS subscription site.

The Extras CDs are built as a convenience. When a package is installed from the Debian pool, it may trigger an undesired update of many other packages. Also from time to time the Debian Pool is temporarily unstable.

3 Extras CD isos are available for testing in the extras directory of the subscriber's ftp site. They are intended to be used only with the original release of SimplyMEPIS 3.3.

Subscribers are encouraged to try the CDs and make recommendations for additions and changes.  Click here to submit your feedback.

OK, here is it. The background image is the same as for KDM. It will stay automatically in place for IceWM when you set it for KDM Login Manager in KDE CC.
The menu is highly simplified compared to the KDE menu. Only the most common tasks. A software for managing your own menu is recommended in the README file.
