SimplyMEPIS 8.0.06 Update is Available

Morgantown, WV, Apl 26, 2009 -- MEPIS LLC has released SimplyMEPIS 8.0.06, an update to the community edition of MEPIS 8.0. The ISO files for 32 and 64 bit processors are SimplyMEPIS-CD_8.0.06-rel_32.iso and SimplyMEPIS-CD_8.0.06-rel_64.iso.

SimplyMEPIS 8.0 utilizes a Debian Lenny stable foundation enhanced with a Long Term Support kernel, key package upgrades, and the MEPIS Assistant applications to create an up-to-date, ready to use desktop computer system.

The updated components on the SimplyMEPIS ISOs include recent updates from the Debian Lenny pool and also Linux kernel 2.6.27.21, Firefox 3.0.9, jbidwatcher 2.0.1, and gutenprint 5.2.3. In addition some minor tweaks have been applied to the MEPIS Installer and the MEPIS utilities

Debian Lenny Based SimplyMEPIS 8.0 is Released

Fast and Light AntiX 8.0 is Released

Morgantown, WV, US and Thessaloniki, Greece, Feb 12, 2009 -- The antiX-team is proud to announce that antiX MEPIS 8 'Intifada' - a fast and light complete desktop and livecd based
on SimplyMEPIS and Debian Testing, with a little bit of sidux,- is now available at mepis mirrors in the released/antix directories in full and base editions.

This release defaults to a fully customised icewm desktop (fluxbox is also installed) In addition to the SimplyMEPIS 8.0 foundation with its 2.6.27-15 kernel and Assistants, antiX has an improved
antiX-Control Centre, new scripts for screenshots, and phonebook. There are improved and extended themes and artwork for icewm and fluxbox. Localisation is much improved in this version.

SimplyMEPIS 8.0 RC3: Entering the "Waiting for Lenny" Phase

Morgantown, WV, Feb 9, 2009 -- MEPIS has distributed ISO files for RC3 of SimplyMEPIS 8.0. The files for 32 and 64 bit processors are SimplyMEPIS-CD_7.9.96-rc3_32.iso and SimplyMEPIS-CD_7.9.96-rc3_64.iso.

For RC3, the kernel has been updated to upstream version, 2.6.27.15. Qemu 0.9.1+svn, libvirt 0.6., virt-manager 0.6.1, and virtinst 0.400.1 are available from the MEPIS pool to better match the virtualization configuration of the MEPIS kernel. At user requests, firefox 3.0.6-1, openoffice 3.0.0-5, and libgphoto2 2.4.3-1 updates were added to the SimplyMEPIS build. Community members have improved the MEPIS Network Assistant, the MEPIS Manual and they have added an autorun Intro to MEPIS to the CD.

SimplyMEPIS 8.0 RC2: On the Home Stretch

Morgantown, WV, Jan 26, 2009 -- Warren has uploaded ISO files for RC2 of SimplyMEPIS 8.0 to the MEPIS pools. The files for 32 and 64 bit processors are SimplyMEPIS-CD_7.9.95-rc2_32.iso and SimplyMEPIS-CD_7.9.95-rc2_64.iso.

For RC2, the kernel has been updated to upstream version, 2.6.27.12. Kvm 83 is available from the MEPIS pool to better match the virtualization configuration of the MEPIS kernel. Grub has been updated to fix a "stage 2" error that was encountered in some rare circumstances. The MEPIS Assistants were updated to work with virtio drivers. Bind9 was updated to 9.6.0-P1 to support NSEC3 for DNSsec.
