Debconf6

A few weeks ago, I went to Debconf for the first time. For those of you who don't know--this is the annual conference (symposium?) for Debian Developers. Debconf6 was held in Oaxtepec MX.

Oaxtepec is a big gated resort with several hotels and many small cabañas for rent. There's a water park attached. I was told that it's a popular vacation spot for residents of Mexico City. Quite beautiful and really peaceful! None of the resort staff spoke English, and I don't speak Spanish, so communication was sometimes touch and go, but everyone was friendly and helpful.

I met some new friends and had a good time attending meetings and hanging out at the wireless hotspot.  As far as I could tell, the main topics of discussion amonst the Debian Developers were whether to ban kernel drivers that use binary firmware from the Debian repositories; and whether to accept or oppose the GPL v3 license.

I also had a chance to relax. This was my first vacation in maybe 10 years. The highlights of the trip were:

  • hanging with my honey
  • meeting Mark Shuttleworth
  • eating at an Argentinian restaurant
  • exploring with Robin and Debbie Miller
  • taking a siesta every day
  • chatting with Mark Allyn
I could get used to the idea of taking a break once in a while...

Who's Mark Allyn?
Meeting Mark Shuttleworth was a highlight?!?!?
Taking a siesta every day- that I can live with here in Greece lol

Edit: I should also have mentioned that I'm glad you had a happy break in Mexico, maybe next time in Greece.

Warren, debes aprender nuestro idioma.

Por eso nos falta un MEPIS bien traducido. Smiling, puedes contar conmigo como voluntario.

Me alegra que hayas descansado... te lo mereces.

Un abrazo desde Panama.
