A synaptic update broke important apps
I've skipped upgrading to beta5, and will wait for 6 final... but I got bit bad by a synaptic upgrade.
It was the latest which had only a couple libs in it and I "saw" nothing that "could" hurt me ... WRONG !
Upon a reboot I lost use of 1) thunderbird, 2) firefox 3) synaptic I can't find anything else broken, but there might be. I think I remember the "error" as libsyn?.so is corrupted or broken. I deleted it hoping that it would be repaired or replaced as a "broken" depends ... nope
Not able to use synaptic, and relying on apt-get I've been totally unable to "get back to business" .. and KMail won't play nice with my smtp and Konq isn't a good rep'l for firefox and nothing works like synaptic.
So, can anyone suggest (short of a format and re-install) that I can save all the thunderbird / firefox stuff and move on? Or better yet REPAIR what I have?
TIA,
Ken

I suppose you've already
I suppose you've already tried
apt-get remove firefox
apt-get install firefox
and the same for the other two?
You might find it easier to locate the issue by installing Adept, which is much like Synaptic: apt-get install adept
Yep, already tried that and more...
I finally bit the bullet and d/l and formatted and now using beta5
Problem "solved" but watch out when "upgrading" it can bite !
