SimplyMEPIS 6.0 RC3

Hi,
I did a clean install of Mepis 6.0 RC3. The "Mepis OLD Control Center" has been removed from the main menu. It is now found under System Configuration (which has been expanded) -> System Administration --> Mepis Utilities (called 'mutilties' now). This is where you have to enable your nvidia as well.
Kernel 2.6.15-25-386 and KDE 3.5.3 are the same as RC2.
I could not find much differences with RC2.
Yes, I found three....
1. XMMS has returned.
2. There is now an extensive License statement
3. In the menu (of the harddisk-installed Mepis) you find the Mepis Installer too... I have currently no idea why it is there (Clone your install ?? THAT would be nice...!)
Looks like a bugfixed RC2 to me + some minor tweaks.
Runs very well though...... Just like RC2 did.
Well done Warren ! As far as I am concerned it might have been the 6.0 release (I had no problem with the missing hwdata in rc2 at all.... )
Regards, Ko

Hello all, this is my first ever post on a forum.
I have tried many flavours of Linux over the years and there was always something a bit too difficult. I would install, play around a bit, get frustrated, and go back to MS Windows. I quite like XP Pro so it was no hardship. But Windows is so boring! Imagine my surprise when I installed SimplyMepis (recommended to me by a friend) and nearly everything worked straight away. The only tweak I had to do was edit the Xorg.conf to get my LG L1950T monitor to the correct resolution.
I am having a lot of fun just using the machine ...
My only question at the moment is, is there a VPN client program in Linux that can connect to a Windows server?
Whoever is in the drivers seat for SimplyMepis, go harder!!! it's great!

Yes, there are several.
MEPIS comes with "krdc" which is "K Remote Desktop" and, as I understand, can connect natively to a Windows remote desktop connection. Haven't tried that, although I have used krdc successfully with VNC on Windows servers (or clients? That whole X server-client reversal thing makes it a wee confusin')
In any case, on MEPIS 6, I believe that krdc is found at KMenu->Internet->More Applications->krdc
Not sure I would put it there, but oh well. (as an aside, one of my few beefs with MEPIS is the layour of the KMenu, which, as compared to, say, Ubuntu's Gnome menu layout, is cluttered and unintuitive. But at least it is editable!)
later...
