first time mepis 6 was to be released on 1 june. since than we had 4 delays (10. june, 1 july, 10 july, 18 july) and now 18 july is history and we're counting delay number 5. and i remember your statement that 10.july will be "a firm release date".
well, no one expected a new mepis on june 1st. no one but you said it should be released that day.
but once you announced it, well, i know more than one person who got anxious waiting for it. and as the weeks and delays passed, you and your delays became a joking mater.
so warren...don't give us false promises, we can wait, but this is becoming ridicilous.

that you read my post before posting an answer. i didn't speak about when new mepis should be released, but instead about promises and delays.

Do you know what issues cropped up in the dates between then and now?
let try... legal compliance review for one.
also how can anyone predict what issues will get reported with the betas and RC's
just give him a break and stop being an idiot.. of course i read your post, maybe you should try understanding the reply a little better. or where you just expecting warren to reply saying he's sorry, which is why your not thinking too much into my post.
also the promises and delay are directly linked to the release dates, thats what there talking about.
a promise is only as good as what is delivered, i would rather have a late promise than an empty one.

I believe Warren did not promise you these dates look at his last lines on forum 11 July 2006 SimplyMEPIS 6.0-rc3 Linux Release: More fixes and some package changes.
Warren put Primarily due to the license audit, the SimplyMEPIS 6.0 bootable CD has been rescheduled for final release around July 18, 2006. The license audit is expected to be complete by the end of July.
Around and expected are not confirmed days are they now ?
Just be patient I want the new release like most probably alot of other people but I would also rather it be delayed and properly working and license issues sorted by Warren first.

well, if someone who's many years in IT industry should expect problems like that. and don't call me troll and idiot 'cause only idiot troll here is you, blindly defending what's never been argued.
i don't expect warren to say he's sorry. i expect him to be more real when he annouces next release date.

"Around and expected" for 18. july but it's 5th delay and he said before that "10 july will be firm release date".
don't try to change facts, don't try to convince me to something that's not true, and don't tell me i didn't read something i did.

blindly complaining about something thats not be said.
look at the rc3 announcement, "around 18th" is not "on the 18"
release dates always slip with issues that arise in the betas and rcs. thats the point of them. to find problems. no one can predict a problem, unless they own every bit of hardware and combination concievable. but then how long would that take to release something...
again....troll. your moan directly relates to something you say it doesnt.

I never understand guys like you - you enjoying MEPIS staff for free and still turn nose because you did not get your toy on time... Or you've subscribed only for July and afraid to not have for your money?... If you really followed events around MEPIS at least for last few months - you should at least understand why final release is late today (if you're human, of course)...

lebanon, if you were interested in starting a flamefest, congratulations, you did it!
No, Warren doesn't need a "laywer". He also doesn't need a guy acting like a PHB trying to stand above his desk trying to intimidate him into delivering something that isn't ready yet.
I like Mepis a lot. I want 6.0 also, but I want it to work. Part of the Debian Linux philosophy is delivering things when they're ready. I think Warren has a better idea of his time schedule than you or any of us do. Even after it is released, there will probably be some bugs (aren't there always?). And I'm sure you will be one of the first ones to jump up and down saying, "IT STILL DOESN'T WORK!" So relax, help on the forum, identify some bugs, and have a little fun

Although I do not agree 100% on what the original poster said, I do see where he is coming from, and I remember the same kind of thing back when 3.4 was supposed to be released. The end result was that I moved on and installed another distro(PCLinuxOS). Well when I heard that a new version was to be "firmly" released on july 10, I thought I'd give it another wirl. Well It's now july 19, and I find myself checking out distrowatch for something else to install. My point being is that I would rather have heard "Mepis 6 final is now ready for download" (when it finally does come out) rather than "release date" promises. Instead of giving release dates that you know you can't meet, how about "it will out in a few months". That way, people won't be expecting it out on a certain day, and will be thinking "It will be out when it's ready, and I can wait".

Look At The Big Guys
Posts: 5513
I know it's frustrating to me when I have to wait. Especially when it's for something "free" like downloadable software.
But even the "Big Guys", Red Hat, SUSE, Mandr/ake/iva, Ubuntu, have had delays in their releases. I seem to recall that it was Red Hat that first tried to promise "regular releases" and "long term support". Then the other big guys tried to follow suit. Ubuntu, being free-as-in-cost, initially was just another Debian-based distribution. Shuttleworth decided to make "regular six-month" releases on the distribution so that they would be "predictable". Then he promised "long term support". And the most recent release, "Dapper Drake", was delayed.
So if the big, popular distributions, you know, the ones that have lots of employees and money behind them, can have a delay, I'd say I will give quite a bit of slack (no pun intended) to the smaller Linux distributors!
By the way, if you go out to DistroWatch, you will find that Mepis is in number four position (Ubuntu, SUSE, Fedora, Mepis, Mandriva).
Keep up the good work Warren and Krew

You can be part of the problem or part of the solution.
If you don't like Warren's delivery schedule then role up your sleves, pitch in and help. Sticking out your lower lip and whining like a spoiled brat is not a solution. You can always take a refund on your purchase price and go complain about another distro.

It's now called "MEPIS Utilities" and it is found in Settings> System Administration. Good Luck with the WIFI.

Let's see....how long y'all been waiting for Longhorn to make it out of the starting gate, and how many features has it already lost along the way (not to mention those yet to disappear)?
Release dates have slipped (nothing compared to other projects I've seen) and, judging from my years of experience with releases like this, for very good reasons. Please note, also, that you have yet to see the feature-set abbreviated in any way.
How much have you spent on MEPIS--at all?
How much have you tried to help?
If I read you correctly, you haven't used a cent of your own money, time or effort to support what's being done; yet you feel no shame in behaving like a spoiled brat.
You are nobody to call Warren out on the carpet, for what amounts to nothing but your own petulant impatience.
Try to be helpful...send Warren a hundred bucks, button your figurative lip, and grow up.

I've done the samething I've used Ubuntu for approx 2yrs.
I first used Mepis as my first Linux distro, when trying to find something that would Allow me to ditch that FRIGGIN Windoze.
And Mepis allowed me to do that.
But when I upgraded my PC to a 64bit board, I got Major Kernal Panic, and at that time Mepis didn't Support my 64bit Sempron Chip.
I went looking for another, and found Ubuntu, which i think is a Pretty Decent distro for the Most Part.
Because of it's Stability as well as it's Security.
I then found out mepis suppoirted more 64bit boards, But figured I was using one that worked So why Fix it?
Then I heard mepis was combining Ubuntu with it's OS, I figured Hey the two I like Most being Combined Cool I'll go download it and Check it out...
I did and I love it...
I helped test Breezy as well as Dapper for Ubuntu, Does this make me Anything NO...
But everyone was frustrated about Dappers one Delay, because of Bugs, then a second delay was possiable.
It really started then, They asked the Testers what we thought, We said let it roll, Through Upgrades we can fix it.
As like Most Drugs that are billed as Safe.
You will "NEVER" know how good your distro's New Version is until it hits the General Populious of the world's PC users.
You may have all the known BUGS worked out, But you'll never have a perfect OS.
Other Bugs will always show up once it's Released.
as far as Polishe.
I've said it many times.
Mepis KDE GUI, is far more Polished then ubuntu with KDE installed.
Or even Kubuntu for that matter.
Theres nothing to Worry about there.
And for the couple of Programs that are having Legal problems.
Their not Crucial to the next Mepis release, at least in my Opinion.
So withhold them from the Final Release and Release them for use with 6.0, Once you get it all sorted out.
Granted it's Not that big of a deal to Wait.
While I also agree that it's NEVER been said a "FIRM" date.
But instead on or around this date.
Just keep us Posted and tell us When you finally have decided when it will be Released.
What gets me is lack of Updates on the matter.
Here we are almost 2 days past the pending release date.
And still No News.
But i can keep running the rc version until we finally get the Final Release.
I won't Give UP.
I'll never Give Up.

a very polished distro, despite being a bit late
or
a un-finished distro becuase of giving in to peoples impatience. which will then have to be updated almost immediately and lots of users complaining about it being a crap distro.
i know my choice.
