Have to start in failsafe

Ok I decided to try RC3 - downloaded - checked the md5sum and burned the cd - everything seemed to be fine but Mepis won't start without logging into root failsafe and typing startkde - below is the output of the terminal window. Any help would be appreciated. I did keep my home directory. I don't know if I have a paritioning problem or what. KDiskFree is as follows:

/dev/hda1/ ext3 9.6G /

/dev/hda3/ auto 12.6G /home

/dev/hda4/ ext2 N/A /mnt/hda4

udev ? 61.2MB /dev

varlock ? 61.2 MB /var/lock

varrun ? 61.2 MB /var/run

Have to start in failsafe

It would appear that something in tha hardware department is the culprit . When ksycoca runs its trying to rebuild kde from errors in the setup or build. The first thing that comes to mind is bios settings . Without correct info the bios provides or needs to supply install is snafued.
My first guess is to turn off plug and play in bios to see if that will coax it into being a little more helpful , doesnt allways work but it would be my first look. In some the opposite is required . In depth hardware info is the key to getting the most input from other users to help, allso other little hints about how it acts can be priceless.
These things can be a toughie because of so many possibilities.

Problem fixed itself

This happened shortly after installing xfce desktop. After a couple of reboots the k desktop started working again. Thanks
