hangs on boot
The bcm43xx driver is causing a problem -- possibly a BIOS update (if available on the Dell web site) could help
The selection for older hardware on the boot screen might work
Or download Mepis 3.4.3 -- an older kernel would not include the bcm43xx driver
Or maybe there's a GRUB Boot cheat code to avoid loading a module (I'll look around -- I don't remember if this can be done -- could ask the developers at mailto:dev@mepis.org if this is possible)

Thanks Mike, Had a problem
Thanks Mike,
Had a problem getting this wireless card (pcmcia) to work in ubuntu as well but was able to use ndiswrapper. However this problem is preventing Mepis 6 from booting. If "GRUB Boot cheat code to avoid loading a module" is available that might solve the problem. Thanks again for your help.
Since it's a PCMCIA card,
Since it's a PCMCIA card, can you boot with it taken out?
If so, then you can go through the normal install, and then before rebooting mount the partition you installed to and add the line
blacklist bcm43xx
to the file etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
so that Mepis won't try loading that driver.
misspoke
Sorry it is recognized as a pcmcia card but it is built in - not an actual card or usb wireless device.
In that case boot with the
In that case boot with the live CD and from there edit the file.
if it is the live CD you're booting from, try to boot with minimal hardware detection and see if it skips the module
