Pen drive disappointment
Posts: 363
It looks like my history of having trouble with usb pen drives in Mepis continues with 6.0 final. But it's getting better.
I have several of these thumb drives. I was very happy when I inserted my 1 GB A-Data, and it was recognized and mounted right away. I could read and write fine. However, when I went to "safely remove" it, I got an error window labeled "Error - kio_media_mounthelper" that said "umount: /media/sdb1 is not in the fstab (and you are not root)
Please check that the device is plugged correctly."
OTOH, a SanDisk 512 MB cruzer gave no problem whatsoever.
Well, this is mildly disappointing, but certainly not a show stopper.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

frisil,
Thanks for your advice. I have to admit that I'm baffled here. After I read your post I tried using my thumb drives again.
This time they all worked, with no delays, complications, or error messages. It all just worked.
I'm a bit perplexed. Perhaps something I updated? I just don't know. After my disappointment a few weeks ago I started using PCLOS more since I was tired of problems with pen drives in Mepis.
And now it works! Go figure. Computers are the worst time sink ever invented.

Wait a moment or close all applications using that usb-drive. I had the same error with my external harddrive, but when I tried again a few minutes later it was dismounted. I think the error message "umount: /media/sdb1 is not in the fstab (and you are not root)" is wrong and means something like "Drive is busy - make sure the drive is not in use anymore".
