I miss Kuickshow

IMO, Kuickshow is the BEST graphics display app on Linux. Point it at a directory full of graphic images and then scroll the thumbwheel. Imagages fly by faster than one a second on my box. One can also do some minor editing of the images. It makes a great tool to show family pictures to trapped guests! Smiling

I wish it were available for MEPIS 6.0 Sad

'kwifimanager' is in there...

Open a console session and type in 'kwifimanager'. On my install, it's present and works, so I just added it to the Kmenu.

They left kpackage in the install, too. It's just not in the menu...no biggie to add it either.

I'm snooping around to find out which kde package to add to get kwikshow back too.

I, too, have family members to torture with 'kid photos,' and kwikshow was the easiest way to do it.

GreyGeek,

You can get your 'Kuickshow' (I don't remember it being spelled that way) here:

http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/k/kdegraphics/kuickshow_3.5.3-1_i386.deb

Here's what I did as root, in a console session:

It works, even down to the right-click integration--without 'other-app' breakage.

"Kwickshow"

Thanks for that URL.

It's not in the MEPIS 6.0 repository.
Pardon the misspelling, but that's the best my 65 year old brain could do at the moment. Eye-wink

BTW, your output seems to indicate that the install failed with a ton of errors and miss-matched libraries, etc...

And it works?

Me too...

Hey...I was spelling it as, "kwikshow", so we're 'boatmates' in that respect. Eye-wink

I'm guessing that the failures are a result of the literal take dpkg has on dependencies, but the libraries are essentially identical to those kuickshow needs to execute correctly:

REQUIRED LIBRARY ................RESIDENT LIBRARY
kdelibs4c2a >= 4:3.5.3-1 .....kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.3-0ubuntu0.1
libc6 >= 2.3.6-6 ....................libc6 2.3.6-0ubuntu20
libgcc1 >= 1:4.1.0 ................libgcc1 1:4.0.3-1ubuntu5
libstdc++6 >= 4.1.0 .............libstdc++6 4.0.3-1ubuntu5

...yet I was half-wondering if it would hang-up on the resident versions of libc6, libgcc1 and libstdc++6.

So far, it looks good, and the only thing I lost was the automatic configuration of kuickshow; something I anticipated bypassing anyway (I don't like it when my customized config files get overwritten with generic info).

I have given it a thorough going-through, since installing it; and, it works exactly the way kuickshow does on the 3.4-3 release.

It's the same kuickshow.

RE:me to

EnigmaOne,
I tried the manual install and I used KPackage.
Both methods install Kuickshow, and Kuickshow works well.
But, both method creates a broken condition in the apt-get database which interfers with Synaptic. So, I had to uninstalled it.

I am going to dl the source and try to compile it.

Crud. Sorry about that. I

Crud. Sorry about that.

I haven't used Synaptic at all, so I didn't spot that because it appears not to have affected Kpackage.

I do see (now) what you mean...Synaptic is identifying the package as being broken.

For my part in it...I can live with that. ShowFoto just isn't as convenient to use as Kuickshow is (for me).

For GreyGeek

GreyGeek,

I got to fiddling-around with the kuickshow '.deb' this afternoon, and think that I've come up with a fix for the issue. I simply changed the dependency references (in the 'control' file) in the kuickshow_3.5.3-1_i386.deb package to allow for the use of MEPIS 6.0-Final.

It seems to work fine on the system I tested it with, just a few minutes ago. (At least Synaptic didn't blow-chunks over it.)

If you'd like to give the new package a whack, you'll find it here: http://www.gabston-howell.org/linux/kuickshow/kuickshow_3.5.3-1_i386.deb

The adjustments I made are reflected in this screen shot:

If you do try it out, I'd like to hear how things go for you, on that particular system.
