i686 optimization anyone ?

since it would speede up the distro i686 optimization seems the next logical step

( kanotix uses i586 optimization)

Is there a reason to still use i386 optimization
(Most people won 't be running mepis on a nything lower than a Pentium 2 ?

Get the 686 or K7 kernel for Mepis 6.0......

Hi,

Just install the 686 or k7 Mepis kernel (currently 2.6.15-26-686 or -k7) and the corresponding linux-restricted-modules package, add the boot stanzas to your /boot/grub/menu.lst and reboot with the newer kernel.
