USB to RJ-45 network device
Posts: 20
I have an anonymous looking USB device to set up a network interface. The device provides a RJ-45 socket.
The device succesfully established network interface on Windows XP system with the supplied Windows drivers. When installing on Windows it identified as ST 268 USB NIC USB to Fast Ethernet Adapter.
If possible, I would like to use this device on a Linux system which has a defective on board NIC. I am using an installed Mepis 6 RC in an IBM Thinkpad R32 but have also now downloaded the relesase version 6 which I can either test as live cd or upgrade RC system.
How can I go about configuring this device to connect the system to my LAN? Is it likely that it should be able to work?
Any hints or clues would be much appreciated.
The device shows up on KinfoCenter as follows:
ST268 USB NIC
Manufacturer: ShanTou
Class: 0 (Defined at Interface level)
Subclass: 0
Protocal: 0

Hi,
I have the same Problem. Did you get any further with your search?
If you use kernel 2.4 on your Linux-Box, you could try:
http://www.davicom.com.tw/big5/download/Driver/dm9601/DM9601_LINUX_V100.zip
and compile the driver yourself.
It doesn't work for 2.6-Kernels though.
If you found a solution, please let me know.
