SimplyMEPIS 6.0 Extras CDs rc1 Pre-release: Requesting Community Feedback
Morgantown, WV, August 3, 2006 -- Warren has announced an rc1 release of 3 Extras CDs for SimplyMEPIS 6.0. The Extras CDs will be offered as a convenience for MEPIS users who can't rely on having a continuous fast internet connection for accessing the online pools. The CDs are meant to contain packages that MEPIS users are most likely to want to add to their MEPIS installation. This rc1 release gives the MEPIS community an opportunity to try the Extras CDs and offer their suggestions for changes before the final release next week.
The contents of each Extras CD is chosen so it can be used alone without requiring that you have the other CDs at hand. Collectively the Extras CDs contain over 1,900 packages that are not included on the SimplyMEPIS 6.0 bootable/installable CD. CD 1 has additional KDE applications, games, and educational software. CD 2 contains language support packages for localizing KDE, OpenOffice, Firefox, and Linux. CD 3 includes server and development software.
Warren Woodford of MEPIS explained "On the SimplyMEPIS bootable CD, we try to provide all of the applications that most people will want and need. But after using MEPIS for a while, almost everybody wants to try something extra. That's why we have these CDs."
Warren continued "I want these CDs to be as complete as possible. We need to know if any dependencies have been overlooked. And if anyone thinks we should add something else, we'll try to include it, but for now I want to limit the Extras to 3 CDs. We welcome all suggestions but, due to space limitations, some are sure to end up on a wish list for the future. This is a good opportunity for the community to let us know what additional applications they use and recommend."
