Nvidia driver and 2.6.15-26
I'm wanting to install the 2.6.15-26 686 kernal image but then I probably have to compile the kernal drivers. Any tips on setting up the image? what all would I need to compile the drivers?

Install the 2.6.15-26-686 linux-restricted-modules package....
Get the MEPIS 686 kernel (2.6.15-26-686), do NOT install the ubuntu kernel with the SAME number !! Look at the version number of the MEPIS kernel: it has mepis in it...... Install that one.
Also install the corresponding linux-restricted-modules package (exact same version as the kernel). Then go into the Mepis utilities (mutilities in the konsole as root) and enable your nvidia (new or legacy) or the ATI-one.
Go into /boot/grub/menu.lst and add a menu-entry for the 686 kernel: Just copy/paste the existing one with kernel 386 and replace 386 with 686 (two places).
Reboot - select your new kernel. No need to compile

Cool
Done, Thanks. Now for the reboot!!!! I have a 536ep modem so when I saw a 686 module for it I tried installing it too and got this.
Not all changes and updates succeeded. For further details of the the failure, please expand the 'terminal' panel below.
Ideas? The modem isn't used that much...just a backup to DSL.
Now if I could figure out the shutdown problem.

686 kernel uses more memory??
Edited -
I have removed my comments because they were wrong. I thought the 686 kernel used more memory, but silly me, I had firefox open when checking the memory usage for the 686 kernel.
