mepis 6.0 vs mepis 3.4

These are my views. Not to critcize any one.

1. I tried to download mepis by subscribing one month membership. The download speed I got from mepis official ftp server was arround 20kbps. ( it was promised 400kbps )
I finally downloaded from a public mirror where I got arround 40kbps. I have sent email to store.mepis.com, no response.

2. Previously I installed 3.4 mepis in 15 minutes, now 6.0 took more than 30 minutes.

3. Hardware detection is better in mepis 6.0 than mepis 3.4

4. Mepis 3.4 appeared slightly faster than mepis 6.0

5. Before this installation I upgraded mepis 3.4 with debian repositories to latest kde. To me debian based mepis was far faster than ubuntu based mepis.

6. amarok is crashing in mepis 6.0, never inmepis 3.4

7. Look and feel of mepis 3.4 was unique and good when compared mepis 6.0.

8. Overall I think mepis should have stuck to debian repositories than ubuntu.

warren should rethink about debian pool vs ubuntu pool.

I also prefer Mepis 3.4.3

I also prefer Mepis 3.4.3 and the debian route, but we are fortunate to choose one of the two.
My Mepis 3.4.3 is fully upgraded via the Sid repos, works on my box fantastically.
Mepis 6 (remastered) also works very well, but I've has more problems than the 3.4.3.
Others have had the opposite.
So, conclusion, pick one that works best for you, your box and your philosophy.

Interesting observations. I

Interesting observations.

I tried to install 6.0 from CD and it failed / was extremely slow on an old machine where 3.4-3 has no problems.

I suspect 6.0 requires more RAM.

Anyone seen the recommended HW requirements?

Thanks,

Olu.
