Bug: nVidia graphics drivers installation continues even if it fails to retrieve nvidia-glx
For reasons that don't need explaining (it was a network problem), apt wasn't working. When I went into MEPIS Utilities to install the nVidia drivers, I selecting the nVidia radio button, and hit Apply. After a short while, I was told I needed to reboot, which I did. Unfortunately, it didn't reboot into X - only a command line. I quickly discovered that nvidia-glx hadn't actually been installed, even though I had been told it was installed. Furthermore, the system had continued to change the driver in xorg.conf to nvidia, leaving me without a working X configuration. Naturally, changing the driver back gave me X back.
Doing the exact same procedure when apt is working results in a perfect installation of the nVidia graphics drivers. However, if nvidia-glx cannot be retrieved, or fails to install for whatever reason, then MEPIS should not:
1) Inform the user that nvidia-glx has been installed
2) Change the xorg.conf file so that the nvidia driver is used
Apologies if this is in the wrong place.
Thanks
Mike.
