First impressions on install

I have covered a few of these notes in another, unrelated topic, but have since tried a new install that actually completed so I will explain more, and reiterate my original thoughts.
Booting the CD was nice, I was instantly greated by many easy to choose options for bootup that I am not used to, selecting screen resolution, language, etc...
My monitor being a 1680x1050 (16:9 or 10 ratio) is usually never detected, I was happy to see the resolution listed on my F3 options, so feeling very happy, I choose this resolution and booted the LiveCD.
To my disapointment after the inital text only screen with a few lines of text (then it goes to the splashy screen), it ignored my choosen resolution and instead choose some arbitrary resolution which wasnt even the same ratio. I was expecting this, however, since no other distro has auto detected this properly. Though if the distro isnt going to use the resolution, why allow for it to be choosen on boot?
After looking arround in the LiveCD for a bit, I noticed that, even though its a KDE distro, it uses Synaptic for its apt front end, this to me was a plus, I hate adept with a passion, but have yet to see Synaptic work properly in a KDE distro (usually the kdesu or similar has faults and Synaptic just wont open sometimes). I havent tested this yet on this distro, but will do so soon.
The installer was nice, it is very simple, yet has some nice options, but a couple things seem to bother me here.
1. The installer does not allow you to install in unpartitioned space, you instead have to create and format a partition (using QTParted) in that empty space just so the installer can format it again in the next step.
2. It doesnt ask you where to place the bootloader until its finished installing. Although I can see the benefits here (preventing problems due to a failed install), it at first scared me a little because I didnt know IF they would let me choose, atleast a note in the begining (highlighted in red or blue so it can be seen easier) stating this would be nice.
3. I am installing this side by side with kubuntu, yet the bootloader installation didnt 'find' my kubuntu installation, I had to manually copy parts of the grub bootloader list (and cross my fingers) to get it working.
I did like the last part of the install where it asked me which systems I wanted to run on bootup (cups, etc...), that was a very nice addition.
As you can see, my inital experiance is a mix of both good and bad, I plan to explore the OS more when I get the time.
