Installing two printers: Printer on LPT works, USB one does not
Posts: 27
I have successfully installed an HP LJ4l on my LPT port and it prints fine. When I tried to install either my other HP Inkjet or my Epson CX4800 on a USB port, they would not print (I tried multiple drivers for the Epson and am using CUPS). Does anyone know why this would happen?

The Epson printer model is shown. The HP inkjet is the all-in-one 5510. I really wish I could find a solution to why the USB printers don't work. I had a problem with my USB flash drive too and got this message (see below). I wonder if they're related.
How do I fix my "security policy"?

How do I easily tell which version of MEPIS I'm using? And, yes, I have hplip installed.

Kurt

Boot your MEPIS cd and open

Boot your MEPIS cd and open it, you will see a file named version, this is a simple text doc, click it. Also when you boot MEPIS the KDM Login Manager should tell you what version.

OK, I'm actually using MEPIS as my main operating system, so I don't boot it from the CD. 3.4-3 is my version.
I'm trying to get it to be my main "home server" and have set up subversion (webdav), samba, and apache2. My main problem is getting the darn printers working, the one thing that I thought would be the easiest. As I implied above, the one on the LPT port is working great (and currently being shared with Samba), the darned USB one won't work either locally nor shared.
I try to do regular updates with apt-get and/or synoptic manager.

Kurt

You can find your printer

You can find your printer driver here: www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Epson-Stylus_CX4800 and just like in windows you can use your own driver.

It's not hard to install a printer. I have already had those drivers (version 5.0). I've tried all three available. I'm not sure what else I can do to get the USB port to print. It RECOGNIZES the Epson printer on the USB port (and the HP one), it's just when I try to print a test page, or any other page that it doesn't print.
Well, I installed MEPIS 6.0.1 from Linux Magazine and both printers are working now!
Thanks for the input though.

Kurt

Check the listings at linuxprinting.org against your specific printer models.
What are they, by the way?
