The problem is some people don't use a shorter link. www.makeashorterlink.com .

...for some of us, the text doesn't start wrapping until column 144, or beyond...

...so we never see the wrapping that you do.
This page is properly displayed in my browser, without side-to-side scrolling.
Chalk-it up to the diversity of the Internet ecosystem.

So...

...is the "screen" width for entry based on how the "browser" is opened (full-screen vs sized window)? I'm gonna try something. As I'm typing this on my Win(yuck) box, Firefox is opened in a sized window slighly smaller than one screen. My screen size is 2048x768, so one screen would be 1024x768. I have the edit space similar to what I indicated above.

I'm going to post this, then change Firefox so that it is maximized to my full (both) screens and see what happens to the "edit" area.
Be back in a bit...
Jon
I'm back.
Nope, I just logged out of Mepis.org, maximized Firefox to use both displays, shut down Firefox and restarted it so that it takes up the full display. Then I came back here and the edit box is the same size. However, on preview the text line is very long. Hmm...
So it looks like whoever comes in and has a bigger (ahem) "something", then s/he wins.
EnigmaOne, this is a personal question, but how big is your "something"?
Is there some browser setting or modifiable configuration for Mepis.org?
Jon

Running at 2560 on the x-axis, Jon; and still need more room.

Good Question!

Good question Distro-Don!
I know that when I paste "code" using the tags to delimit it, if the code line is long then I will have to scroll left/right to see the line on the finished page. However, any other posts that I make "play nice" with the display (I'm using Firefox in both Win and Linux). I don't think it's browser specific, but I don't know. I do know that when I am composing a post, that the font showing is Courier-based. I am going to put a "ruler" below to show the maximum length of my line before wrapping to the next line. I'm going to mark it in preformat tags "< pre >" and "< / pre >" (with no quotation marks nor intervening spaces):
So it looks like I am allowed 60 characters for initial entry but drupal will "intelligently wrap" lines so that the text will be longer on display.
Now, here's the way it shows up allowing for the "intelligence":
Approximately 85 characters.
Those maintainers of the site, is this a drupal thing or something else that can be controlled or overriden?
