Simply Mepis v. 6.0

Hello,

This sight has the following software I'd like to use

http //packages.debian.org/stable/kde/basket

I downloaded the i386 version and installed it. It showed that it was missing some "things". I'm new with LINUX, but some of the "things" missing are listed above with the red bullseyes. I didn't download any of these.

How do I incorporate the necessary "things" into the software.

I hear you laughing. I checked this information out, and it kinda made sense.

This is my first attempt at installing software in LINUX. Sorry for the ignorance.

I've since uninstalled the broken software.

I appreciate any help and time on this matter.

Lisa

You're doing it the hard way

You're doing it the hard way if you're trying to download it separately and install it versus using a tool like Synaptic.

This software is already in the Ubuntu repositories (and SimplyMEPIS 6.0 is based on Ubuntu) and you can install it with Synaptic so that it will find the right versions of related software to work correctly on your PC.

If you load Synaptic (you'll find it under System, Package Manager from the main KDE menu in SimplyMEPIS), you can easily install it from the Ubuntu repositories.

I'm not sure if it's in the ones enabled by default or not.

But, after loading Synaptic, just go Settings, Repositories and make sure all of them are checked and it will find it.

Then, use the big Reload button you'll see to download up to date package information.

After that, use the Search button and type in name of the software you're looking for.

You'll see any software that matches your search criteria come up in the list.

In this software's case, it will be the top listing when you search for basket

Then, right click on it and select "Mark for Installation".

After your mark it for install, Click "Apply", and it will install it for you.

Basket 0.5.0-5 is already in the repositories that work with SimplyMEPIS 6.0, so that you can use a tool like Synaptic to easily install it and any packages that it depends on to work.

Thank you, Jim!

That was easy and I appreciate your precious time in helping me. Hopefully, I learned a bit about software installation.

Thanks again,

Lisa
