yet another broadcom topic......but take a look please

Distro: simplymepis 6
wlan: beoadcom 4318
goal:make it work
dificulty: UNBELIEVABLE Evil Evil Evil Evil Evil Evil Evil Evil Evil Evil Evil

After the topic about my modem, from wich i recieved no answer..... here is another beautiful one....

First of all lets all agree that the belowmentioned HOW TO is correct...it was posted here by a member... and i believe its correct

"""""""Ok -- simplest way to get this to work

blacklist bcm43xx

then -- as root -- remove the Broadcom driver furnished by Mepis
ndiswrapper -e bcmwl5 (since it doesn't work for you)

now -- copy all your Windows drivers (you'll need .inf, .sys, possibly .cat as well) to a folder in Mepis

navigate to that folder in Mepis
(as root)
ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf (or whatever the .inf file is named)
ndiswrapper -l ( -- good response is driver present, hardware present)
ndiswrapper -m (may not be needed but won't hurt)
reboot (may not be needed but won't hurt)
(after reboot)
modprobe ndiswrapper (may not be needed but won't hurt)
mutilities

then set up wlan0 and wi-fi in Mepis utilities -- click "Apply" at each tab -- 2.462 MHz = channel 11 --- 2.437 MHz = channel 6

your wireless is working! -- note-- set up without encryption first if having problems, then add encryption later

if mutilities still doesn't work to set up your wireless -- set up with iwconfig

iwconfig
iwconfig wlan0 essid YOURESSID channel YOURCHANNEL#
dhclient wlan0""""""""""""""""""""

Ok these were thw instructions ...........
now i give the console log of what i did, after i mention that i copy/pasted the driver files form the windows directory /programfiles/broadcom/drivers to /home/wlandrivers (from which i sterted the whole process) and then after i failed i copy/pasted them to /root/wlandrivers (form which i tried again). It shoyld be mentioned that i get this message at boot...loadndisdriver failed (error 361) couldnt load bcmwl5 driver or something like that.

SOOOOOO here it goes..............

Problem Solved

Guys indeed it had to do with drivers...
as i said i have 32bit windows and i downloaded and still use the winxp driver
however the problem is at HP, which gives you a driver with 64bit characteristics that ndiswrapper cannot work with. I repeat i use on a 32bit windows system a 64bit driver that came with the cd of my laptop and its the same with the one i download form HP support !!!!!!! and it works !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
when i downloaded the correct files form http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m...index.php/List everything worked

here http://www.insomnia.gr/vb3/showthread.php?t=157971 you can find the HOWTO i wrote but unfortunately its only in greek, however someone can understand the console commands (they start with #). When i find time i will try to post it here in English.

Thanks again for the help Cheesy

I have the same problem...

Which driver did you install?

The first link above does not work. I followed the link from your howto, but there is a lot of listings there. I have tried several of them with no luck.

Thanks,
kumar

Drivers

That's the same link from

That's the same link from Dimitrios's howto, but there are quite a few entries there and none match my hardware completely. I've tried downloading and installing several (after uninstalling the previous) and none so far work. The get me "driver installed" only.
