To Warren GOOD IDEA!!!

Hi warren,
I'm Sam...you may see me around the forum or ask Dianne who I am. Under the ATI fglrx driver checkbox in the MEPIS utilities I think you should add another little checkbox for setting up the fglrx driver for laptops. I have a Mobility Radeon 9700 and it's resolution (screen) is supposed to be 1280x800, however when I installed the fglrx driver it only goes up to 1024x768. It's a bit distorted but I can live with it for now. I really like MEPIS more than any other Distro and I've tried 9 of 'em. Please include Mobility Radeon 9700 support (different from Radeon 9700). Because I think it set me up for the desktop ATI Radeon 9700.

I just think it would be a good idea to have a checkbox for laptops and desktops separate.

fglrx checkbox for laptops - bad upgrade

My Gateway m675prr has that same ATI Radeon 9700 chip and your idea sounds good to me.

An aside - I regularly go to the repository and do an upgrade whenever that little cardboard box on my icon bar tells me there are upgrades in the repository.

Last night it showed four upgrades. One was the Xorg fglrx driver. I selected all the upgrades, including the Xorg driver and installed them. When I logged out and back in and found my 3D was now jumpy, not smooth and quick like it had been before. Rebooting didn't help.

So, I downgraded to the previously installed version and rebooted. Everyting was back to it normal, QUICK self, and AmericanArmy, Stellarium and Tux run great again.
