unable to install on desktop pc

Dabbling with Linux, tired of Spyware. I thought this os was going to be the answer. Installed it on IBM t22 thinkpad 900 pIII and it worked so well it won"t shut down. Have to reboot and shut the power off b-4 grub starts. Tried to run on my desktop (p4 2.4, asus 800mhz mb, 512mb ram, G force fx5200vid, dual seagate hd's, sony 15" ES100 monitor). No Joy. In regular mode resolution came up 640 x 480 couldn't use screen. Thought If I installed I could change resolution but it locked when it tried to install kde. In safe, minimum, and old hardware modes I got nothing on screen. I had suse 9 on this machine and it worked. I installed Ubuntu, screen came up too small to read but I was able to resize to 1024 x 780. Gnome is a problem for me.I like the way Mepis works on the laptop and would prefer to use it on both. Any Suggestions.

I know you probably want the

I know you probably want the latest and greatest but out of curiosity why not download and install 3.4-3 which was an excellent version and see if that works for you. The new version is excellent but some people have had problems installing it on some systems.

3.4-3 installed

didn't realize 3.4-3 would be a better option. Installed without any problem. Repositories were different and I must of screwed somthing up when I updated cause I lost my ability to connect to the net. Got some learning to do. Thanks for the tip.

You probably have to open

You probably have to open oscenter and click the startup at boot option for your eth/wlan.
