Card Readers

Hi all,
I was a bit disapointed as I pluged a pcmcia-adapter with a CF-card type I (64MB) in my laptop (PIII, 256RAM) and I saw that Mepis 6.9-1 didn't recognize it as a usual hde device... Pluged before starting Mepis works flawlessly. Is it my computer, or do I have to abandon the idea to plug my adapter when Mepis works in order to transfer files from a computer to another one?

Have you tried an external card reader?

First, linux will treat the card reader not as an IDE device, but as a SCSI device. Open a terminal, login as root, then type: dmesg | less and scroll through the kernel messages and look for your device to be recognized as a SCSI device.
This technique works for Zip drives, iPods, external hard drives and external card readers.
Have you tried an external card reader? You can get models that support your compact flash card, and plug in to any USB port, and you can get them for less than what you paid for your CF adapter. I have a SanDisk SDDR93 SD/MMC card reader that works very well on MEPIS.
Thanks.
