If it's really going, then you're out of luck.
Fortunately, drives are cheap. Make sure you've got whatever data you can get off of it, or set it up as a slave drive.
For whatever reason, I've now lost two home hard drives and two production drives at work in the space of a month. I'm not happy. :barf

HDD Regenerator is unique software program for regeneration of physically damaged hard disk drives. It does not hide bad sectors, it really restores them! Bad sectors are a part of the disk surface which contains your useful digital data but are unreadable by the computer. If your hard drive is damaged by bad sectors, it not only becomes unfit for use, you also risk losing information stored on it. HDD Regenerator will rescue your data in such situation.
Quite pricey and the demo is useless but if you're dealing
with forensics and absolutely have to revive that exact
drive at all cost$ it works...and takes forever
I did a 40 gig and on a fast box it took overnight.

Try partioning and formatting with qtparted and see if you get any errors. Go to K Menu > System > File System > Qtparted.
Do you have any other OS on this drive or is it empty. Is there enough space if not empty for the install?
If you think you have a bad hard drive why do you want to install anything on it?
