Len, can you please provide us with more information on your hardware? Is it a desktop/laptop, brand and model, amount of RAM, CPU type/speed, size of your hard drive?
Lastly, where did you get the Mepis 6.0 disk? Download or buy...

When you start up the computer with the cd in the drive ( run from cdrom) does all work ok?
