WinTV-NOVA-T DVB help!

Hi there I am using mepis 6.0 and it has picked up my nover-t which is a dvb card which is the SAA7146 and some times a TDA10045H in kaffieine which is the same card i think it contans a few chip sets the SAA7146 and TDA10045H are the same card!. I am certan that I just need some filmweare for this card to get it working

0000:00:09.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7146 (rev 01)
Subsystem: Technotrend Systemtechnik GmbH Technotrend-Budget / Hauppauge
WinTV-NOVA-T DVB card
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 217
Memory at febf3800 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512]

any way now this is where it gets weard so please belive me! kaffeine picks up this card but can not scan propley but get's dected as a TDA10045H. anyway in windows i installed the proper software for the DVB and it works fine with the channels etc. now if I do a restart I can go into linux (mepis) and scan propley for chanells and watch them propley no problem at all. but if I switch off my PC completely it then does not work in linux, until I go back in the windows and use the card. hence I wonder what has happened hear, well it is windows hupplarge DVB software putting filmwear into the card and when the PC is shutdown the filmwere is erased from the card. now I aint one for using windows as every think is fine in my linux setup and the software for the card on windows is a real ugly pice of software I have ever seen in my life. kaffeine is just brill with the card from when windows put the filmwere in ( if ya get my flow). I am just glad I can touch type (other wise I could not explain any of this)

so i gess i need filmwere for the card so at every time at boot up it put's it into the card so I can use it - would be nice

now i am gona tell you what kaffeine is doing while scanning

some times when I scan for channels ( no filmwere loaded ) it says that I have a 100% signal but no SNR

some times It can do the opposite the SNR has a small % ranging any where between 1% to 30% but it always changes but now has 0% signal

this is what I get in a konsloe when I open up kaffeine through it

now this is a how-to from a site showing how to put filmwere into the device at boot up

http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Firmware

but the only problem is that I dont have hotplug

and cant find any

/lib/firmware or /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/

I could install this hotplug through synaptic but it says it will remove loads of stuff shuch as mepis utilities which I need as I have some DNS problems with a few programs such as apt-get and some others but not all. I have to do that 4.2.2.1 thing

so I cant install hotplug at all as it will mess other things up for me (well it seem's that way anyway)

I am gona post how to get film where on some mepis forum some where. but there is 3 different forums emm i wonder which one

the instructons to do this filmwear are useless and expects you to know every thing about ever thing arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

and dont say Google is your friend. I do that lots with things that come out of the terminal. like dvbsi : Cant tune DVB

I hope some one can help me with things like hotplug and get the filmwere in the card

any hellp guys - thanks

to start

saa7146 is the tv card chip
TDA10045H is probably the sound chip or the tuner on the card

no, you can't install hotplug in that version of Mepis.

you need to determine which card and which tuner in the saa7146 list
then rmmod -f saa7146

modprobe saa7146 card=(number) tuner=(number)

i am aware that you still won't solve this from here unless really persistent, but if you can gather a lot more information for me i'll help you through it later

HI

how do I do this

"you need to determine which card and which tuner in the saa7146 list"

i have tryed the

rmmod -f saa7146

root@1[~]# rmmod -f saa7146
ERROR: Removing 'saa7146': Resource temporarily unavailab

samuelmp's picture

am i right that modplug is

am i right that modplug is kind of the same as hotplug?

drlizau's picture

don't think so

that's really great

Hi if you know that you only

Hi

if you know that you only need firmweare for this card then go to

www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_install_DVB#Obtain_the_firmware

hear you will find firmware for this card

http://thadathil.net:8000/dvb/fw/

there is firmwere for other cards there you can try them if you like but I cant garanty if it will work as you might be using some other kernal, but for this card and it's brother "tda10046" (if you are using mepis 6.0)

what I did was to right click on the firmweare that was for my card "tda10045" then I clicked "save link as" this then saved the file to my desktop your browser might put it some where elce, I then put this in my home folder /home/jo-bloggs-home/

now as you can see I need to put this firmware in some folder some where, you will probly cant put it where you want be cause you are not ROOT!

so then you need to end current session and go and sign in as the root adminstrater

now you if you aint changed the root wallpaper it will be
red wallpaper in the back ground (you know your there then)

now go to your home directory where you saved the firmware

now open your home directory agen so you have two open!

now in one of them at the top (address bar) type this in there /lib/firmware/

now just drag the firmware into this directory by using your mouse the same way you move files!

and well that's it!

go into kaffeine to see you card scan for channels

now kaffeine will find channels dont for get to click add selected (you have to highlight them)

hear is where I found out how to do this

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=241431&highlight=nova-t

and

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/search.php?searchid=8711134

if you have any problems with these two cards and are using mepis 6.0 then reply to this fourm to me and i will see if I can help

the short version

Get dvb-fe-tda10045.fw. Put it in /lib/firmware (Nova-T PCI)
