Like Rudi, I need to be told how.
So far, I've run multiple versions of Mepis on various boxes. Right now, I have the current MepisLite installed on a laptop and a desktop. I suppose I'm a technological minimalist: I'm philosphically committed to "lite" computing. I see MepisLite as a viable OS in its own right--not just for older machines.
I'm delighted to see LiteMepis take off. Let me know what I can do.

I refurb PC's and give kids their first computers with my own Knoppix-based remaster. I would love to help as much as possible. I can definitely test on a wide range of machines.

I'm not too good with coding, but I seem to have a knack for finding weaknesses and faults because I have access to a huge variety of machines from the latest to the oldest so testing mepis on a variety of machines and finding common flaws is my kind of thing.
For the time being, I can assist with testing only, but as I get more acquainted with Linux, I'd like to assist with some of the deeper issues.
I'd be happy to provide a step by step installation walk-thru, howto etc, possibly including snapshots if required. I know anyone could do it, but I have gained so much from Mepis (I've been freed of windows), I'd like to contribute something back to the community which is more than just a subscription.

I have a decent old VAIO with a 600 mhz proc and 256 meg of RAM - should be a good candidate.
I also have the leavings for a 233 laying around, but I have to get to the bench to swap out the mobo.
Let me know where to report.

I'm getting more heavily into Java and the C's of programming. I'm already heavy into developing web-based applications using Javascript. If you need help collaborating on some code then shoot me an email @.....

I can also help out with documentation. Read my articles on the Technalign TaFusion Knowledge Base at http://kb.tafusion.org/ to guage my skill in your opinion. Technalign's TaFusion Frontier and Version XI are based off of MEPIS Linux and I know you and Dianne go back and forth between Colorado and Morgantown (my sister goes to WVU).
I have already developed a MEPIS.org and kb.tafusion.org search bar in Firefox that you can use and include with your distro. I feel if you include both searchbars your users will find help that much easier. Click the links below to obtain a copy of each searchbar. The path for the firefox searchbars is located at /usr/shared/firefox/searchplugins and this is where you should install the searchbars that way it's available to all users created on the MEPIS machines.

To install the search bars into your linux distro, install it to your browser first (by using the Knowledge Base articles on howto install links in the article above) and then to obtain them go to ~/.mozilla/firefox/profile/default.crazynumber/searchplugins and then grab the files...

kb-tafusion-org.src

Those are the actual searchbars, copy them to /usr/shared/firefox/searchplugins
If you just have your OS installer place the plugins into the directory above (/usr/share...), then those will be available to every user on the system.

Testing
Posts: 2280
I cant speak for Warren but in my way of thinking testing should be done on as many rigs as possible Cramp. If you have the hard drive space why not , you never know whos gonna find a problem.
jim

Well, I sure could do that.

Well, I sure could do that. We've got enough used computers sitting around, some of which I built from used parts. I seem to understand hardware better than software, though. I'm only beginning to learn that cd means change directory, and not computer disk, er, I mean, compact disk LOL. I sure would like to try it out on a dual core processor, even though I hear there are issues with SMP's.
I could always buy a Simply Mepis t-shirt and wear it to wally world. That'd get the locals curious!
Thanks James!

I can help with testing as maybe a live boot run and hardware detection issues. I have a fairly new p.c with Nvidia gpu and also usb wireless networking and a haupguage nova t dvb card and the like. Also I'm a complete noob so if anyone's gonna break it I Will. Also I run things like Boinc grid computing for the world community grid ( 100% cpu utilisation, number crunching )so itll be interesting to see if all these bits and pieces will run. I even play Unreal Tournament so it would get a real rough ride ROFL.
Cheers

I hope it's okay with Warren that we bring a mixture of skills and foibles.
In my case, the foibles dominate: I treat thumb drives very gently because I'm still afraid of jarring a drive without having parked the heads. (!!)

I'm new to linux and Mepis lite was my choice over other linux versions. I have tried the new full desktop Mepis version, and it's great. I'm so pleased to see lite being developed.

Hi SAM,
Just to set the record straight, I've never met Dianne. I've never been to Colorado and she's never been here. She makes boxed products that include MEPIS combined with commercial apps.
Thanks for your work on documentation. I appreciate everything that everyone is doing to help out.
I'll check out the searchbar as soon as I get a chance.
Best,
Warren

Hi Warren;
What's the status on this one?
Were you able to point out some or more developers and users to test the MEPISLite already?!?
If so: Good luck, all of you!
Hope to hear the results.
