Intel dual core

Anybody here running Intel dual core and able to install Linux, if so what hardware are you using? I built a Intel D915 using a Intel DG965SS mainboard and it installs and runs Windows great(Vista32, Vista64 and Win2K), but it don't seem to know what to do with a Linux cd/dvd, it seems that some drivers and or other stuff are missing in the Linux kernel. I'm going to keep this system for one week, if I don't get this figured out I'm tearing it down and it's going back, so far it's just been a *fast* pain in the *ss.

I have an intel dual core

I have an intel dual core myself and everything is fine. My board is an Intel D945Psn. My burners are AOpen ... a CD and a DVD Dual Layer.

I have built 2 of them for customers

Both of them ran just fine, but I did see a higher than average number of hardware initialisation failures while booting from CD and no different when SM was loaded to the hard disk.

One thing of particular note was partimage reported an unsupported partition type (ntfs) on one of the machines when I tried to back it up, but it worked flawlessly on another, even though both were identical??

What the problem is, Debian

What the problem is, Debian is building a new kernal to work with the new 965 chips but don't have them on a cd image yet, but I have been able to download and install the new kernel on a Sid system. So I will hang tuff for a few more days and hope that Debian will soon upload a new cd image so that I can try an install with the new kernel.

Dual Core

You might want to check out this link from Mepis Lovers. We were having a discussion on 64 bit and near the bottom of the page are comments by me (maury) and steelfanatic about both amd and intel dual core boxes. Tom's hardware had a good write up about the Intel dual core. I can't afford to build another box right now and I can only speak for the AMD_64 dual core which is running good so far.

Well, I got Window Vista RC2

Well, I got Window Vista RC2 64bit and Linux installed today, no 64bit Linux yet, but I'm starting to see some lite at the end of tunnel. My hardware is Intel D915, Intel 945GTP, Patriot DDR2 2X512 667MHz and an Antec Micro Case, right now this system is only using 260MB RAM and 0 Swap. Laughing out loud

I have intel DP965 LTCK m/b, GEForce 7300LE video, 2GB ram. I was having the same problems described here. I was able to load Mepis onto my HD using the following:

In BIOS Advanced -> Drive Config -> Config SATA as AHCI.

And I selected boot small from the first menu, and added these to the command line:

all-generic-ide pci=nommconf

And it installed. But now I cannot see my DVD drive or my network. I'm still working on that.
