I cannot print to my PrintSmart_7150
. I have set up the printer on USB after the system detected it. Won't print the test page even after trying all of the available drivers. I set it up using printconf with the same results. Has anyone had similar problems and can someone even give a hint as to how I might find success?

What version of SimplyMEPIS?
If it's 6.0, try this (don't do it this way if it's MEPIS 3.x versus 6.x):
From the KDE Menu: System Configuration (Settings)>Peripherals >Printers>Add Printer/Class>Add Local Printer.
Then, make sure to select the Printer Choice with the underscore characters in it. It should show up more than once (actually 4 times if you count the entry under each main one).
Select one with the underscore characters (second main entry in the list with my HP PSC-1400).
Notice how I'm selecting the entry under "Other" that has underscore characters in the description, when there is another entry under "USB" above it without the underscore characters.
Then, follow the prompts, selecting HP as the manufacturer, and Photosmart 7150 HPIJS for your printer (I'm assuming that it's the one you mean).
Fill out the rest of the info as you go (printer name, etc.), leaving most of the rest at defaults. Then, it should work OK.
If you're using SimplyMEPIS 3.x versus 6.x, then you'll need to add it via http://localhost:631 (click on the link in this sentence to go to the CUPS Web Interface to Add it).
Check to make sure HPLIP Toolbox can see the printer OK after adding it. You'll find this utility from the main KDE Menu under Utilities>Peripherals>Printer Toobox (HPLIP)
