Laptop HP dv5094EA, no wireless connect with Mepis 6

I presently have a successful XP wireless connection from my Laptop HP dv5094EA to a 'central' PC (XP) with a Belkin Wireless G Router.

I have so far failed to make a wireless laptop Internet connection using Mepis 6 live CD (from Linux User & Developer, issue 65), after successful Mepis installation. I am no expert but have faithfully tried many of the wireless-connect options. In particular I have tried to use bcmwl5.inf & bcmwl5.sys (from XP C:\swsetup\SP33008A\ ) in ndiswrapper by copying from hda1, and noted that Mepis did this automatically. I have tried several forum suggestions under networking and laptops, without success: The lower left icon message says eth1 is connected, but ping 69.5.5.47 is no good.

I would greatly value any help, or pointers to help. Please do not assume that I have done everything obvious and sensible, it might be the simplest foolishness.

Broadcom

I have posted many times about Broadcom wireless, and it does cause problems

http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php/Any_card_using_the_Broadcom_43xx_chipset

After you make sure bcm43xx is blacklisted
type ndiswrapper -l

should show
driver present, hardware present

you need to set up wlan0 for ndiswrapper -- eth1 is probably the bcm43xx driver connection which (I think) is more difficult to get working -- this should disappear after you do the blacklist and reboot
