USB digital video camera, 1394 and sbp2

Hi,
I have a Canon MV600 and would like to download videos from it to my mepis 6.0rc3 box.
I had a look at www.linux1394.org where I found some instructions, but still haven't managed to get it to work.

1) modprobe -l | grep 1394
/lib/modules/2.6.15-25-386/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/pcilynx.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.15-25-386/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/ohci1394.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.15-25-386/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/eth1394.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.15-25-386/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/dv1394.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.15-25-386/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/video1394.ko

I guess I do have the 1394 modules, right? I should just load them.

2) modprobe ohci1394
FATAL: Module sbp2 not found.
FATAL: Error running install command for ohci1394

here I should install sbp2. How do I do it?

3) If it is needed to mess up with the kernel (http://www.linux1394.org/start_install.php), then I have an additional problem.
The link above assumes a /usr/src/linux symbolic link, which I don't have - installed mepis from a live CD.

ls /usr/src
modules # (empty)
rpm

What should I do?

thanks in advance for your help and patience

Did you try digiKam under graphics?

jim

tryed kino

couldn't find graphics in digikam (0.8.2-rc1).
If I execute Capture with kino, I get

Warning: raw1394 kernel module not loaded or failure to read/write /dev/raw1394!

I guess I need that module, or there is a way around it?

Dont know if this will work or not but you can try it. Open /etc/modules with file manager superuser mode and type in

ohic1394

just below the text on left side . Then save the file . Then hook up camera and reboot. The modules seem to be in kernel so making them load may fix it . Its worth a try.

Google's Picaso works great too

Althought DigiKam works great to detect my KODAC DX7643 I discovered by accident that Picaso would mount the camera and download picts and videos, even though it wouldn't play the videos like DigiKam will.
