Broadcom 4306 initial OS install works out the box.........do updates and now won't connect.

Ok did a fresh install of Mepis 6.0 on a Dell Precision M50 and everything went nicely. Setup video card and everything. Broadcom worked out the box, and even got it working with Knetworkmanager. Then came the updates and the reboot, now it loads and sees the AP's but will not connect. I am using WEP on this so if anyone has run into this and has a solution it's much appreciated.

Been a while since I

Been a while since I wrangled with that issue but, IIRC, an update to GnuPG or the wireless packages (I'm reaching waaay back, here) will require at least a reconfig of the WEP key(s) and, (possibly) a run through ndiswrapper configuration.

I'm thinking of several threads, here, that you'll probably find easily with a search on ndiswrapper and bcm.

Broadcom

I have posted on this many times.

First thing is to make sure bcm43xx is in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

Set up first without encryption, get encryption working later

I Don't Know...

freejack, I'm not sure if you have a "new" problem or not. Just last week, on Friday, I did an update to my Dell Inspiron B130 laptop. Unfortunately, I have been unable to play with it this weekend because I was away. However, Friday night, when I tried to connect wirelessly, it did not work, even when it had worked flawlessly before.

I will try to test it over the next couple nights and see if I can isolate the problem to new software from an update, or a local problem on my end (my router's been flaky for some time now).

Thanks mdmarmer for the reminder too. I will check my blacklist once I power up my laptop. I also have a backup that I did a couple weeks ago (gotta make a newer one) and see if it changed.

I believe that you'll find

I believe that you'll find that all of the modules will have to be removed again.
