Would you like a free commerical HIATLANTIS CRM application?

We are wanting to release our commerical HIATLANTIS application to the community for a single user free of charge. We believe that a single user office would be able to use the system as well and able to compete better with your larger competitors. If you're running ACT or Goldmine, hopefully this will get you off of Windows and on MEPIS or TaFusion Frontier. There is also accounting now with Appgen MyBooks for those running accounting on Windows and you can learn more on the www.TaFusion.com website or the www.appgen.com site. Our objective in both communities is to get all Windows users off and onto MEPIS or Frontier! The application webpage for HIATLANTIS is at http://www.hiatlantis.com. We also hope that the forums and knowedlge base on TaFusion has been helpful on www.tafusion.org.
Please take our poll on releasing a free version of HIATLANTIS for MEPIS and TaFusion Frontier. The poll is located at: http://www.tafusion.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=102
Please let us know if you'd like a copy of HIATLANTIS.
Thank you,
SteveM

Free for Single-User usage.......?

I tend to believe that the very nature of such software [multi-user collaboration] simply defeats single-user mode. It surely wasn't meant to be used that way......
Otherwise it's a very nice gesture.

Free is a good concept but paid helps to keep afloat :)

I feel that it would be a great thing becuase it will allow small businesses to try it out first and then convince them to buy more users once they see the benefit in using it.
I mean, if they were to purchase more user capability that would just mean they get one user free. I'm assuming that's the case.
Steve would that statement be true or would they have to purchase a multi-user pack and just scratch the free user once they've found it productive?

Actually people running a single office would do fine with it. When version 1.1 was released it actually was a single user Windows system (we don't support Windows anyloner). Our initial versions in the early 80s were also single user and multi-user based. Granted not all the functions would make sense for every single user business, but with the CRM would be great for anyone running an office by themselves.
So it would work great for a single-user system as does ACT and Goldmine.
Hope you see the value for a single user...

Yes Sam, that would be correct. We also hope that a single user office would grow to multi!

I'll try it anyway......:-)

Despite my reservations I'll give it a single-user try if and when the package becomes available. So I voted YES.

The single version of HIALANTIS is basically for someone running a small office. Do you run a small business at home?
We're trying to decide what to release with it. Of course the osCommerce module will be released separately under the GPL and people can tie that in also.
I'm wondering why you have reservations also Ko. Can you let me know what they are?
Thanks,
SteveM

Well, here's why......

Yes, as a matter of fact I do. On request I sometimes perform Quality Management System consultancy jobs. Evaluating/Improving the QMS of industrial companies used to be my job for nearly 20 years.

Why....? As I wrote before in this thread: 'Collaboration software' is designed for- and best used in collaborative work environments, Especially if such workplaces are in different locations.
I fail to understand how multi-user software can be fully used in a single-user environment. Unless different "roles" (of the same single-user) are standard implemented in the software. Is that implemented in HIATLANTIS? You must be aware that very often -in small companies/offices- people do "wear more than just 1 hat".

Ko,
Act and Goldmine perform a function and used in many single offices. HIATLANTIS used as a single user application provides CRM functionally and those performing multiple functions would find the application perfect in that environment performing the tasks in different areas such as producing an invoice or doing a quote.

Are you using a CRM to keep manage your contacts?

As I am trying to explain, and more than likely not doing a good job of it, and individual in a small company may perform multiple roles and end up performing each task. To answer your question, HIATLANTIS in superuser mode would allow one individual to use the different dashboards and in effect perform all of the functions. I'll try and explain better if I can:
1) Using the CRM function the person would perform their daily contact with companies or individuals they are selling a product or service for. Contact management is the basic function in HIATLANTIS and allows them to do this.
2) During the course of a call they may sell a product or service, in effect they would then generate an order. This order would then be queued for processing. That same user can use the fulfillment function and process that order. Chances are they would also do the accounting, and if not they could export a file for the accounting person without requiring dual entry.
3) This user would use the fulfillment system to generate an order along with Purchase Order to a vendor if needed. They could also do consignments as well as just ship the product.

The answer is yes, they can perform different tasks/roles. We have seen people in a SOHO use the software off of one PC and “taking turns” using it off a single PC since it's all browser based. A single user can switch between functions so the different roles can be used by a single person.

Yes, you are.
The 'roles/functions' capability (for a single person/user) makes it feasible.
BTW: I really don't need CRM for my very occasional assignments. I do occasional consultancy jobs for 3 {long-term) clients only. And for no one else.
Bring on this HIATLANTIS......
You made me curious.

I'm glad I was able to clear that up. At least one person is curious in the MEPIS community! Have you looked at the pages on www.hiatlantis.com and see how one person could go from function to function?

Sounds like a great gig you have there! I do HIATLANTIS support and some Frontier/MEPIS with customers. I also use it quite extensively on the job along with my Linux desktop of course!

Great, just follow the announcements on TaFusion, MEPIS, or HIATLANTIS and you should see the release. We're actually going to allow updates on the free version so people in the community can benefit from it also. I'll post it here of course also.
Still would like you to poll on the options you'd like to see included with it...
Thanks,
SteveM

We released HIATLANTIS demo for now...

It's now avaliable for download. You can get this from here:
http://www.tafusion.org/downloads.html
Although it's been made to install on Frontier MigrationSERVER or MEPIS SOHO server I'm wondering if you can tell me how you do on installation.
This is a 30 day demo, the full single user will be released tomorrow or in a few days...
The documenation is there also...
Thanks,
SteveM
