simplyMEPIS 6.0 limited install

Hi, Guys!
I just d/l-ed simplyMEPIS 6.0, burned it, and installed it on my P3 1.1ghz, 384 mB RAM, 80 gB (7200 RPM) hdd, box. At one of the first menus, I chose to do the "full install", or comething like that. The machine halted. I started over and did the "limited install" and everything went swimmingly, including partitioning the hdd. Now, I wonder what I lost by not doing the "full install". The hdd is new, only having somebody else's Linux distro on it (Linux XP, which I didn't like). Could my install limitations be a result of the fact that the previously-installed distro was already running its own swap file, leaving insufficient resources for MEPIS to do a "full install"? If so, should I try to reinstall?
Thanks,
Barry T

Not sure we're following you correctly

Mepis 6.0 does not have a limited install option. You can choose to either use the full hard disk or use existing partitions. Either way, because you tried the full install first, I would hasten to say your hard disk would already be partitioned the Mepis way, and even if the partitions were not altered, I would guess the previous installation had a small swap and a majority / (root or data partition)

Whichever option you choose, the full MEPIS system is installed to your hard drive so it's unlikely you have lost or missed out on anything, unless the last owner had multiple partitions with a seperate /home, in which case, you may have a smaller partition for your system and data

You can check this for yourself by cranking up qtparted, K-Menu > System > File System > Qtparted (enter your root password) select your hard disk, wait for the gui to load, maximise the screen for a better view and looking at the partition layout. No changes are made if you just quit out, but the graphical bar chart should answer your questions very quickly.

MEPIS 6.0 limited install

Thanks for the input, Mike. Maybe I should have said that I did the "install for older machines" option, which I "assumed" was a limited install. You are right, the earlier Linux XP distro had a small swap file and the rest of the drive was root. I used QTParted to create a 10 gB root, 1 gB swap and 69 gB home. Approximately. After "commit" and reboot, the install proceeded without a problem. The 3 partitions were created correctly. I'm gonna add the "extras" programs and have some fun. I don't understand why MEPIS wanted me to do the "older machine" option. This box ain't that crippled. Thanks again.
